Verizon outage: iPhones, Android gadgets caught in SOS mode

A widespread Verizon outage is inflicting iPhones and Android gadgets to enter SOS mode, stopping them from making cellular calls except they use WiFi calling.

The Verizon wi-fi outage began at roughly 9:30 AM ET, with the outage monitoring website Downdetector reporting that roughly 100,000 customers are impacted by the difficulty.

When a telephone enters SOS mode, it means it can not connect with a mobile community and solely permits the making of emergency calls.

Whereas not each Verizon wi-fi buyer is impacted by the outage, many have taken to social media, significantly X, to report the disruption.

“SOS on my phone, I have Verizon and am in Chicago. What is the outage and what are the updates? I need my phone to work,” tweeted a buyer from Chicago.

“Phoenix area cell outage?? Several phones on Verizon showing SOS can only call using WiFi,” one other reported from Phoenix.

On iPhones, affected customers see messages like “your phone’s not registered on a network so you can only make emergency calls” and an “SOS only” textual content on the prime of the display, confirming that their gadgets are caught in SOS mode.

The outage is usually impacting iPhone customers, with some Android customers stating they’re affected as properly.

Those that are impacted by the outage say they’ve tried to reboot their gadgets, however it doesn’t repair the issue.

Verizon has not but supplied a transparent rationalization for the outage or any updates on when the difficulty is perhaps resolved.
